David Mallette arrived in Seoul at the end of August to take over from Annabelle Larouche as Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Canada and will be the Embassy’s liaison with CanCham.

David has been a trade commissioner for most of his 16-year career with Global Affairs Canada with postings in Kazakhstan, Russia, and Greece. For the past year, David has been in full-time Korean language study.

Prior to joining Canada’s Foreign Service, David lived in Moscow, Russia, working as an editing manager at the publishing house of the Russian Academy of Sciences and then as a policy coordinator at the American Chamber of Commerce.

David studied at Carleton University where he holds an undergraduate degree in history and Russian, and a graduate degree in history. David has also earned the Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation. In addition to English, David speaks French, Russian, Greek and is looking forward to improving his level of Korean.

David is accompanied by his spouse Oxana, his son Alexander, his dog Louie, and his cat Ellie.
