Canada–Korea industrial cooperation continues to deepen

Korea’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Kim Jung-kwan, visited Ottawa on May 5–6 to advance discussions on bilateral cooperation across industry, energy, strategic resources, and defence.

Meetings with Canadian counterparts, including Industry Minister Mélanie Joly and Energy and Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson, focused on strengthening collaboration in hydrogen, critical minerals, and supply chain diversification. Discussions also continued around Canada’s submarine procurement program and broader defence industry cooperation.

The visit further resulted in new agreements on icebreaker research and industrial technology collaboration, connecting research institutions and innovation partners from both countries. These initiatives reflect growing momentum in practical cooperation between Canada and Korea across advanced manufacturing, energy transition, and R&D.

As both governments continue to reinforce trusted partnerships, Canada and Korea are expanding opportunities for long-term collaboration across defence, energy, advanced technology, and industrial innovation.
